A rusted, decayed boat dock lantern is discovered by fifteen year-old Jason Hanson, on a sunny, Saturday morning, high up the bluffs, in a puddle of salt water.  He picks up the crusted oil lamp to examine it and at once is engulfed by a fogbank, but not before he catches glimpse of an old, three-masted sailing ship out just beyond the floating beds of kelp.  Everything becomes shrouded and muted.  As Jason examines the lantern, the torch suddenly ignites.  The lamp, no longer rusty, is now polished and new.  Engraved in the base of the lantern are the initials “MΩJ.”   Slowly, the fog dissipates, and, to his astonishment, Jason now stands on a wooden pier, at night, in the year 1858!  Jason has always liked sea mysteries.  Now he finds himself helplessly locked in one!
